Erik Thomas von Detten started on DAYS when he was 9 years old. He played the part for a little more than a year, until his character, Nicholas, left Salem and moved to Europe with his parents, Carly and Lawrence. For additional info on Erik, see his Fascinating Facts section. You can find his full list of credits since leaving Days at Beth's Where are they Now? Page.

Erik von Detten

Nicholas Alamain

Erik's first show biz role was as a choir member in the 1991 film All I Want for Christmas. The movie opened with Erik and the other school boys singing "Angels we have heard on high."

Erik really put his heart into his singing. He seemed very focused, even when the other boys in the choir were messing around.

This was Erik's first scene on Days. We first saw Nikki on a plane chatting non-stop with the woman sitting next to him. He explained his relationship with Vivian, his love of books, his travelling, and much more.

Nikki told the woman next to him that he was headed for Salem. He told her that he'd heard "It's an awesome place." He figured that since he was now nine, it was time he settled down and had a home with his Aunt Vivian. In the meantime, Vivian was at home in Salem worrying about where her precious "son" had gone.

When Nikki got off the airplane, he convinced the flight attendant that he was going to be met at the gate, so she didn't need to see him off. She did give him a nametag, which he immediately took off after getting off the plane. Therefore, when Carly passed by him in the airport, she had no idea who he was. She just said, "excuse me, sweetie" to him and moved on. Carly was bringing Brady's blanket to John and Isabella who were leaving for Italy.

Nikki got his own cab to the Alamain mansion. He opened the door and immediately made himself comfortable on the couch.

Lawrence, Carly and Nicholas Alamain. Nikki came to Salem to visit his Aunt Vivian. He had no idea that he would end up finding his parents. Pictured here Michael Sabatino {Lawrence}, Crystal Chappell {Carly} and Erik von Detten as Nicholas.

Nicholas was a very cute, but very spoiled child. Just look at these clothes.

Nikki befriended Lisanne {Lynn Herring} when she moved into the mansion. She even helped him build a model of the solar system. Months later, Nikki accidentally murdered his friend Lisanne.

Erik brought his mom, Susan (right) and sister, Britta to the 1992 annual Days picnic.

Robert {Bo}, Erik {Nicholas}, Crystal {Carly} and Michael {Lawrence}. Bo wanted to marry Carly, but Nicholas did everything in his power to keep Bo and Carly apart. It was Nikki's disappearance that prevented Bo and Carly from getting married in late 1992.

Nikki and Lawrence played chess at the DiMera mansion. Nikki told Lawrence that his "right flank is exposed."

They discussed a lot of things as they played. Nikki was tired of his school and asked Lawrence if he had to continue "going to that dumb school." Then they shook on a good match. Lawrence was impressed by Nikki's talent in chess. Nikki asked if he wanted a rematch.

Vivian congratulated Nikki on his match with Lawrence. She told Lawrence and Nikki that they were the two dearest people to her.

Erik went to a lot of personal appearances and award shows. Pictured here with Ivan {Ivan G'Vera}.

Erik with his mother, Susan. Erik and his mom have a very close relationship. His mom has helped him all the way through the years. It was his idea to act and his mom supported him in every way she could.

Soap Digest asked Michael Sabatino who he thought Nikki {Erik's character} looked the most like.
Michael: "He resembles Carly more than Lawrence, but when he gets his mustache hairs he'll probably look like Leopold {Avery Schreiber, pictured to the right}, Lawrence's father."

Erik got to be front and center with Salem's other young men for the cast photo shoot in 1992. (Left to right:) Erik, Brian {Andrew} and Scott {Shawn Douglas}.
