Jenn brought Abby downstairs
to see Jack. Jack had just redecorated the living room and
bedrooms and surprised Jennifer. {1/19/93}
Jack asked Jennifer to give
him "the child." Jack didn't look comfortable holding Abby.
He held her very low and was walking all around the room
with her as he talked to Jennifer about all of the plans he
had for the Spectator. This was a rare scene, since Jack
wasn't around for much of Abby's life as an infant.

Abby just hung out in Jack's
arms. Megan didn't seem to mind the way she was held. Every
once in a while she'd look up or offstage, but she never
really moved. Watching Matt's hand kept her busy for a bit.

After Jennifer left, Jack told
Abby it was best if she didn't know that he had found the
money in the barn. He knew he was doing the best thing for
his family, by buying back the Spectator. Megan looked right
up at him and Matthew said, "What are you looking at?"

Jack continued to talk to
Abby. She looked right at him and put her thumb up by her
mouth, but never put it in. {1/19/93}
Megan lost interest in what
Matt was saying. He was working hard to get her to look at
him. He leaned down closer to her face, but she only turned
away. Closeups of Abby had been blocked for the camera, so
they went ahead and did them, even if she wasn't looking at

Jack continued talking with
Abby in yet another scene. He told her he really didn't like
hiding things from Jennifer, but he knew they'd be getting
back on his feet and it wouldn't make a difference. Jack
looked more comfortable with Abby now. He patted her on the
back as he held her. {1/19/93}
Matt still wasn't having any
luck getting Megan's attention. She was busy looking down at
his tie, so he held her up. Then she looked right past him
and up at the lights. {1/19/93}
Matt decided to just let Megan
look at his tie. It was the first time she'd really made an
effort to make contact with him. She reached for his tie and
studied it. {1/19/93}
The scene ended when Jack
kissed Abby on the head and then put her back on his
shoulder, saying he'd always take care of her.
