Philip Robert Kiriakis was born on February 21, 1995, to Victor Kiriakis and Kate Roberts. He was the product of in-vitro fertilization and was carried by Vivian Alamain. Philip was named after Victor's godfather, Philip and his mother, whose maiden name is Roberts.

The character of Philip was first played by twins Jonathan and Thomas Selstad. They played Philip for 4 years. They were replaced by Shane Nicholas, who appeared in just one episode. In 1999, Brandon Tyler took over the role as a teenage Philip, but was soon replaced by Jay K. Johnson. Jay left in late 2002. When the character returned in May 2003, Kyle Brandt was in the role.
