Samantha started playing Noelle at the
age of 4 months. She played the role for about 6 years.

Noelle started talking
onscreen very early. In this scene, she said, "Papa" to
refer to Joe Gallison. The first time it was filmed, she
caught a glimpse of one of the studio monitors and instead
said, "Papa on TV."

Pictured here: Samantha, Gloria Loring {Liz} and Joseph
Gallison {Neil}.

Noelle was leaving the
hospital after a very scary event. She was having seizures
and no one knew why. Neil and Liz rushed Noelle to the ER
and she was diagnosed as having Juvenile Diabetes.

Neil and Liz thanked Tom and
Alice Horton for taking such good care of their little girl
while she stayed in the hospital. Liz said she was going to
do a concert to raise money to help fund the research that
is done every year on Juvenile Diabetes.
Liz told Noelle to tell Tom
and Alice goodbye. Noelle said "Bye-Bye" and waved.

When they arrived home a big
banner was there, welcoming Noelle home.

Neil carried Noelle into the
living room so she could look at all the decorations. He
told her it was all for her. Noelle said "All for me."

After Noelle's nap, Neil and
Liz prepared to give Noelle her first insulin shot since
being home. Neil asked, "Did mommy tell you about the shot?"
then he handed her Sugar Babe (her doll).

Liz said she needed help
explaining the shot to Noelle. Neil started to explain and
Noelle pointed to the needle and said "Is that the needle?
No, shot!" This scene was obviously taped many times with
all of Samantha's talking out of line. She knew all about
the shot before they even gave it to her.

Liz let Noelle hold the needle
and then told her to listen to Papa.

Neil explained that some
people have glasses and some very special people get shots.
Noelle was one of the very special people, along with her
doll "Sugar Babe".

Neil asked if Noelle
remembered the shot at the hospital. She said "yeah" and
then looked at the needle and started to cry, saying "No
shot, don't give me shot." Samantha obviously knew what a
shot was. Joe and Gloria were able to calm her down again.

Liz and Neil had a needle
ready for Noelle to give her baby doll a shot. This type of
role play is a way of giving a young child a shot, without
traumaizing the child. This role play is used a lot with
cancer patients.

Neil told Noelle that Sugar
Babe needs a shot. Noelle pointed to the needle and showed
it to Liz, saying "baby shot."

Noelle turned and gave Sugar
Babe her shot. She was very careful. After the shot, Liz
kissed the doll to make the pain all better.

Samantha saw Gloria getting
the needle ready and was saying "Mommy, no shot. Don't give
me shot. Holding her arm." Samantha obviously knew what was
going to happen next.

Liz gave Noelle the shot. When
they told her it was all done she stopped the tears from
coming down.
It was amazing to watch
Samantha in this scene. This 3 year old really knew what was
going on with the needle.

Noelle went into convulsions
due to her insulin level. Liz panicked, but gave her
glucagon to normalize her sugar level. Liz asked Noelle if
she was feeling better now. She nodded her head, "Yes."

Noelle stayed in bed to rest
after her scary day.

Liz loved singing to her
daughter. She rocked Noelle to sleep singing,
"Where
is Love?" from the
Broadway musical, Oliver.

Samantha seemed to love the
rocking. She was staring into space, calmed by the whole
thing.

Samantha must have been tired
already, because the rocking did her in. She was trying
desperately to fight sleep, but her eyes were getting heavy.
Samantha finally fell asleep toward the end of the song.

Noelle was lucky to have a
singer for a mother. Her mother sang to her all the time at
home, but on this occassion, she got to hear her mother
perform for an audience.

Noelle obviously enjoyed
watching her mom. She had a big smile on her face. Liz was
singing "A Shot in the Dark."
