Taylor and Shawn Carpenter

Will {Taylor} and Sami came back into the room. Will had a book in each hand. He asked, "Mommy, can I read a story now." Sami said he could, if he had a short one. {2/6/02}

Austin went and picked Will {Taylor} up, saying, "I think that's a great idea big guy." Austin gave Sami a look. She asked, "What?" Austin, upset with Sami's nonsense, said, "Later." {2/6/02}

Austin put Will on the bed with his books. Kate asked him what book he had. Will told her, "Goodnight Moon." Kate said, "that's daddy's favorite." Taylor began reading the book. As Will read, Lucas started mouthing the words. Everyone was excited to see this, except Samil. This was not the first time this book was part of Will's storyline. He read it during the Thanksgiving episode in 2001. {2/6/02}

Clearly Will {Shawn} was getting through to Lucas. The nurse was brought in and she asked Lucas to squeeze her hand. He didn't. They all watched as she tried to get a response. He seemed to be mouthing, "Will" over and over. Kate decided she would try. She told him that they were all there for him. {2/6/02}

Will {Shawn} called out, "Time to wake up daddy!" Lucas mouthed Will's name again. The nurse told them to keep talking to him and she went to get a doctor. {2/6/02}

Kate put Will {Shawn} up on the bed. She said to him, "I know your daddy heard you. We are all so proud of you...We really are." Will was listening to Kate as she talked, but then he looked over at Sami, who was not at all thrilled. Will seemed to wonder why his mom didn't want his daddy to wake up. {2/6/02}

Kate closed the door after Sami and Austin left. She then went over to talk to Will {Taylor} . She told him he could come and visit his dad anytime he wanted too. She said that she knew that he was making his daddy feel better. Lauren was very sweet with Taylor here. She took his face, then his hands, as she talked to him. {2/6/02}

Kate said, "You miss him (Lucas) don't you?" Will {Taylor} replied, "Especially at night." She told him that Lucas would do everything he could to get back to him. She reminded Will that Lucas missed him very much too. Kate then took Will off the bed so she could talk to Lucas. {2/6/02}

At the beginning of the next episode, the same scene was repeated, but due to adlibbing, some lines were said differently. This time Kate said, "You can come and see your daddy with me as often as you'd like." Something else had changed...Shawn was playing Will. {2/7/02}

Kate asked, "You miss your dad, don't you?" Will {Shawn} again replied, "Especially at night." Shawn seemed to be working very hard to say "especially." He was really twisting his mouth. {2/7/02}

Kate said, "Ooohhhh, I know, of course you do, because that's when he used to tuck you into bed, didn't he?" {2/7/02}

Again Kate took his hands and told him, "I know that he would do anything to be doing that again. He misses you. Very much." Kate held out her arms and said, "Oh, Will, he loves you too." The two of them hugged, in the first part of the scene that was different from the previous day. She again lifted him off the bed and told him to put his book in his backpack. Kate then kissed Lucas on the head and told him, "We're going to win, darling...we're going to win." {2/7/02}
