Doug was depressed during Hope's first year. Addie died when she was just an infant, after she was hit by a car. Addie saved her daughter's life by pushing the carriage out of harm's way, but then she lost her own life. Doug didn't want to celebrate Christmas at all until the family convinced him that he needed to make the holiday special for his daughter. They shared the holiday in the Horton living room with the rest of the family.

Doug hugged his daughter, remembering how lucky he was to have a reminder of Addie.
