Michelle Trachtenberg
Lilly Benton Montgomery
1993-96

The East Coast soap stars always seem to end up together at functions. Here Michelle clowns around with OLTL's CJ {Tyler Noyes} and Sarah {Courtney Chase}. {pic courtesy Amy}

Michelle was the first Lilly we saw when the character was introduced. We learned Lilly was the daughter of Laurel Banning and was autistic. Laurel had been harboring many secrets while trying to protect Lilly, whose education cost thousands of dollars each year. Michelle was born October 11, 1985 in New York and made her first commercial at age 3 for Whisk detergent. She is best known for her roles on Nickelodeon shows like The Adventures of Pete & Pete (as Nona Mecklenberg), Clarissa Explains It All and Blues Clues. However, most recently she's shown that not only was she a fantastic child actor, but she is also great teen actor. She now appears on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Dawn Summers. {Photo on right courtesy michelle-trachtenberg.com}

In 1996, Michelle nabbed her biggest role yet, when she appeared as the title character in Harriet the Spy with Rosie O'Donnell. {Photos courtesy michelle-trachtenberg.com}

Meghan and Alison Tuma
Sam Grey
(1996-97)

Maria and Edmund were unable to conceive, so they were thrilled when Kelsey agreed to let them adopt her soon to be born child. Things didn't go smoothly after the birth, as both Kelsey and the boy's birth father, Bobby Warner, wanted to claim the child. Maria and Edmund were part of a custody battle, where they lost Sam, but they eventually got the boy back when Kelsey and Bobby decided that they were definitely not ready to be parents. The girls were cast in the role in March 1996 after the casting director saw six sets of identical twins, mostly preemies (so they'd look like newborns), and they passed some crucial "tests" for being on TV. The casting directors would take each twin and go off in different directions, in order to assess how well they did being away from each other. Babies who were upset with this might cause trouble onscreen. Before Tumas were cast, there were three different infants as young as two weeks old who held the role of Sam. {Some info from SOD}

During their time on AMC, Meghan and Alison were seen at public appearances on many occassions. Here they are with onscreen birth mom, T.C. Warner (Kelsey). Warner said of the girls, "We adore the babies! They're happy babies and they're both so cute." The girls seemed to most enjoy their time with T.C. and John Callahan {Edmund}.

Meghan and Alison were a part of one of AMC's most heart-wrenching scenes. Maria and Edmund lost custody of baby Sam to Kelsey and Bobby and had to give up their son. Maria wasn't ready to let go, but Edmund knew they had to do the right thing. He finally had to take Sam from her arms as she cried. Sam did too. He even looked back as Edmund walked away with him.

Sam was reunited with Kelsey, his birth mother.

Meghan and Alison began looking more and more like girls by the time they were nearly two. Their hair was getting long and they couldn't pull off the role of a boy anymore. The inevitable happened and the girls were recast in 1997.
