Tyler Banks
John Ross Ewing III
1979-1982

The son of the evilest and most powerful man in primetime TV, J.R. Ewing {Larry Hagman}. Cliff thought he was the father of John Ross, since he and Sue Ellen had an affair. He came to the hospital to see "his" son. He told his sister Pam that he should be raised as a Barnes, not as a Ewing. Sue Ellen delivered John Ross early because she was a heavy drinker. She wrecked her car and John Ross had to be delieved by c-section. John Ross was kidnapped the day that he was to come home from the hospital. Bobby, Cliff and Pam managed to find Priscilla Duncan, the lady that they believed was at the hospital all the time. Priscilla told Pam she just had a baby, who turned out to be premature too. As Pam is about to leave, she hears a baby crying, odd, since the hospital records indicated that Priscilla's baby died. Priscilla insists that the baby is hers. It turns out that her husband left her, her baby died. Cliff takes a final look at the baby and leaves. Pam and Bobby bring Priscilla and the baby back to Southfork where Priscilla apologizes to Sue Ellen. Sue Ellen takes the baby and hands him off almost immediately to Mrs. Reeves, the hired nurse. Pam changes John Ross in the middle of the night and feeds him and cares for him when she is at home. Sue Ellen overhears her talking with Mrs. Reeves about how it's so unnatural for his mother not to care for him at all. JR and Sue Ellen fight about the baby and Sue Ellen's unmotherly love for him. Bobby tells Pam not to help with the baby so much, she is getting too attached. John Ross starts crying and Pam rushes up to the nursery, surprised to find Sue Ellen there holding him. Pam was sad and broken hearted, for now she has "lost" John Ross. Bobby reminds her that the baby was never hers.

John Ross was laying in the crib when Sue Ellen and JR came upstairs. Cliff Barnes had just filed a suit against Sue Ellen and JR for a DNA test on John Ross. He wanted custody of the child. JR told Sue Ellen that if John Ross was not his son, she would be finding another place to live with her bastard child.

Sue Ellen picked up John Ross and hugged him. She told him it was going to be alright. She knew he was a Ewing, and even if he wasn't, Cliff would take care of them both.

JR and Sue Ellen took John Ross to a hospital in Dallas to have a DNA test done. It was a dirty downtown hospital. JR was not happy to be there. Sue Ellen told him to get over it. They had to come here so he couldn't buy off the doctor performing the DNA test.

John Ross was shown sitting in his crib. He was looking up and making noises when JR walked in. He looked right over at JR and watched him as he came closer.

JR picked him up and held him close. This was the first time that JR held his son with real love. The DNA results had just come back and proved that John Ross was JR's son.

Tyler took over in December of season two and played the role for 3 seasons. Tyler got very little air time like many prime time soap kids. He was either in the back ground or eating something well everyone else talked. Even when John Ross and Sue Ellen moved in to an apartment, he had his own baby nurse their too. John Ross was leaving with JR for his weekend visit. When JR arrived, he put his hat on top of JohnRoss's head. As they were leaving you could hear John Ross giggling under the big hat.

John Ross was sitting next to JR eating his dinner. He got up when everyone was talking about Jock and went and sat in Jock's chair. Everyone at the table turned and looked at the next generation sitting at the head of the table. JohnRoss was laughing and taking in all the attention. Jock was missing, but was believed to be dead. Miss Ellie decided soon after this scene to put Jock to rest , have the courts declare him dead and have his will read.

One of Tyler's favorite foods must have been mac & cheese. He was always being sat down at the table to eat. It was mac & cheese being served and hot dogs or chicken nuggets. Photos courtesy of The Ewings

Tyler loved working with Victoria Principal {Pam} and Linda Gray {Sue Ellen}. Sue Ellen and Pam stayed friends through the divorces and fighting that went on in the Ewing home. Tyler played the role for 3 seasons, he was a little over three years old when he left the role. In the fifth season of Dallas, John Ross was aged from 3 to age 7. John Ross and J.R. were playing with his train set just before bed. John Ross had this HUGE train set right in the middle of his bedroom.

JR sharing a real father son moment with his son.

John Ross was all ready for bed when he remembered he wanted to go tell mommy good night too. JR walked him over to the bedroom where Sue Ellen was passed out drunk. John Ross was too little to really understand that his mom was passed out, not just sleeping. He gave her a kiss and said good night.

This scene marked Tyler's last episode as John Ross Ewing lll. He was replaced the following season with Omri Katz.
